I generally like the conveyed image and take on what silence means in this work. Though silence in certain perceptions would mean to be at peace or state of consolation or Sympathy with the surrounding environment… this artwork shows that silence can be as terrifying or loud as Noise. Sometimes Silence speaks more than words. The expression shown on the subject’s face shows utter terror and trauma, and the words surrounding the subject supports the girl’s expression. Her mere thoughts resonate from her appearance and flood the background. There’s also contrasting factors that make great points of interests… there is the backstory to the artwork itself, speaking of a traumatizing event caused to the character’s brother. The expression the girl emits shows how she both has Innocence and Guilt glowing all around. Innocence since she is a victim of injustice and Guilt because she is forced to witness her brother’s demise and she knows she can’t do anything but watch. A gritty take on silence, as well as a fascinating piece altogether… I would have rated it a 4/5 in total. The words in the background may support the image or provide a backstory, but sometimes it’s better to leave certain areas blank or void of too much attention that the main focus is focused upon… but since the background was decorated in such a way that the main focus stayed as the thing to be prioritized … I’d give it a 5/5 total. The style used was unique, and every possible emotion from pain to repressiveness was felt once I further looked into it.
